Armchair NAMORADEIRA

The "Namoradeira" armchair is one of Caldas' most recognizable pieces. This iconic object combines various techniques from the early period of the Móveis Denúncia ("Protest Furniture") movement, when he worked with solid wood. However, one can already see elements of his later works here that were famous for carving techniques. By placing two chairs into a specific position, the author allows two people to have a conversation face to face. In this functional sculpture, the designer reveals the creative power of architecture encompassing all art forms. The chair was made from different types of wood over the years that play an important cultural role in Brazil.
