“Cosmos”, Korolev Yu.K., (1965) – 1969
On a specially added wall at the end of the secondary school building, Yuri Korolyov depicted a gigantic cosmonaut in a spacesuit, three storeys high, floating in zero gravity. In his hands he holds a star-shaped structure symbolizing atomic energy, the world of the microcosm, while a blue planet Earth drifts beneath his feet. The entire panel, assembled from plates of colored glass, gilded smalt, and natural stone, has a pronounced relief: the mosaic projects outward, while a white “recessed” contour runs between gradations of color and form. Moreover, in several places three-dimensional stones were inserted, many of which have now been lost.
