San Isidro

James Hill's other emotional and impressive series — photographs from the San Isidro Festival, which has been held annually since 1947 at the Las Ventas bullfighting arena in Madrid. It is one of the most important bullfighting festivals in Spain. The series was commissioned by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The photographer captured the events and life of this festival during the May evenings, when more than 20,000 fans fill the stands of the arena every day to see bullfights and novilladas, and where the best Spanish bullfighters confront the bulls.
