Ariana Ahmad
Ariana Ahmad is a Russian architect with a bright, recognizable style. Founder of Ariana Ahmad Interior Design. Her work is influenced by the minimalist works of Peter Zumthor, Tadao Ando and David Chipperfield. She creates works in various architectural genres, skillfully using light and space. Ariana bases her approach on the choice of eternal materials: travertine, marble, wood, stone. It is important for her to convey the emotions and scale of each object.
Ariana Ahmad received her professional education at the Start School of Architecture at the Union of Moscow Architects and the School of Painting at the Tretyakov Gallery, and later graduated from the University of Geodesy and Cartography (Department of Architecture in the experimental group of Professor L.V. Dem'yanov of Moscow Architectural Institute) in the specialty of "Architect of Residential and Public Buildings". Her practice includes work at Mosproekt and several design studios. In 2010, she founded her own bureau, which designs interiors and develops individual design items.
She believes that it is architecture that shapes the interior. “My perception of space is clear geometry, rhythm and meter. I always try to make each element complement each other. I like strict ascetic spaces filled with art and objects around which life is formed,” explains Ariana Ahmad.
The light sculptures in the series resemble jewels, both in their materials and in the meticulous craftsmanship, yet magnified in scale. La Lune is a particularly complex and exacting collection: each material is precious and delicate, and every piece demands countless hours of devoted work.
The new finish is a conceptual exploration of the moon’s texture, evoking the subtle irregularities of its surface. The background is rendered in gold, nodding to the world of jewellery. This creates a dialogue between the lunar surface and the idea of a jewel, culminating in a soft, pastel palette that harmonises the green of the glass with the pink of the onyx.
The La réflexion series is inspired by the natural world. Following the architect’s vision, marble, onyx, and volcanic lava acquire new properties that are contrary to their inherent nature — stone becomes pliable and flowing, mobile and mutable. The gentle curves of the forms invite touch, evoking the texture of the material, the porousness of lava stone, and the cool smoothness of marble. “These are objects born from thought: the most beautiful things in this world are created by nature. Something light, yet dense. Like a wave, like a sculpture, like frozen fabric. For me, it is thought, reflection, la réflexion,” explains Ariana.
