PAD PARIS 2025

On the occasion of PAD Paris Fair, Booroom Gallery will present works that embody the project's philosophy: the profound exploration of the boundary between collectible design and art, a precise mastery of materials, and the symbolic significance of each artistic gesture.
Lena Solovyeva is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice merges various approaches. Her interest lies in the creation of unique surfaces, the technical possibilities and processes that allow the material to manifest itself — either in her work with metal or other mediums. Lena's experiments with hand printing continue her study of the essence of chosen matter, bridging her design and artistic practice.
In her new Post Florum project, the artist explores nature, the flow of everyday life, and the concept of construction, looking at them through the lens of consumption and environmental awareness. The artist focuses on the traces left by humans, the invisible processes of creation and destruction within landscapes.
José Zanine Caldas was a key figure in Brazilian modernism and one of the rare visionaries who shaped the identity of his country during his time. Driven by her passion resulting in the growing personal collection, Irina Budtseva-Vinitskaya explores his legacy and identity through his rare and unique objects. Caldas’s pieces — sensual and powerful — were always created with the intent of unveiling the potential and innate beauty of each fragment of wood, some of which were never replicated. He transformed remnants of "found trees" left behind by deforestation into furniture with expressive forms, engaging the local community of canoe makers in the process. His projects were always guided by a deep respect for nature — the forest as a source of life and strength — as well as local traditions and craftsmanship, long before discussions on decoloniality became widespread. He championed a new, conscious approach to material usage and sustainability, turning his work into a protest against humanity’s dominance over nature.
On the occasion of PAD Booroom Gallery showcases several pieces created during the most significant period of his career, the era of Móveis Denúncia or Protest Furniture. The center table with the set of stools belonged to the Zanine family in Bahia in the 1980s, where his son Euclides Zanine lived afterwards.
Portuguese sculptor Rui Matos simultaneously works with existing reality and creates one of his own. He states: "Each sculpture is the creation of a new being, whose memories return to me as a result of the transformation of recollection". Through these transformations, the artist explores imagined worlds and an "archetypal" memory of the distant past.
On the occasion of PAD, the artist will present two monumental sculptures that embody his approach to materiality. The series they belong to was exhibited at the Sociedade Nacional de Belas Artes in Lisbon on the occasion of the artist's retrospective. His works, created from corten steel, require exceptional mastery, as the material is notoriously difficult for shaping poetic and fluid forms. Yet, he skillfully transforms it to convey both strength and delicacy.
"These sculptures are silent stories. We live on our personal and collective memories, and every element we find in these sculptures is a part of that. The vertical sculpture stands as a landmark or a totem, telling the story of a place or a family. The wall sculpture resembles a relief in a medieval church, narrating the story of an event", the artist explains.
Tomonari Hashimoto represents a new generation of ceramic artists challenging the field with extraordinary techniques. His unique multilayered works are both rigorous and intricate. His experiments with material, form, and aesthetics have already established him as one of the most promising masters of our time.
For the PAD exhibition, Hashimoto has created a new series of works. The surfaces of his ceramics now esonate differently, emphasising the new dimensions of material exploration.
"This new series uses low-temperature glazes with a high glassy quality. I have long researched low-temperature firing to preserve the rawness, texture, and shape of the clay. These works invite direct touch, allowing one to experience the unique sensation of glazes adhering to the skin — their smoothness and tactility", states the artist.
In terms of color, this series employs a simpler palette in contrast to the complex hues of the artist's previous works. This clarity enhances the perception of form, reinforcing the spatial awareness that is central to his practice. "At first glance, these pieces may seem different from my earlier works. However, I believe that the background to my creation has not changed much. It is just a part of the gradual change in myself", Hashimoto explains.
Ariana Ahmad is an architect with a distinctive and recognizable style. Her work is influenced by minimalists such as Peter Zumthor, Tadao Ando, and David Chipperfield. She works across various architectural genres, skillfully utilizing light and space. Her approach is based on the selection of timeless materials: travertine, marble, wood, and stone.
For Ahmad, it is crucial to convey the emotions in the scale of each object. She firmly believes that architecture shapes interiors. "My perception of space is based on precise geometry and rhythm. I always strive for every element to complement one another. I am drawn to strict, ascetic spaces filled with art and objects around which life unfolds", Ahmad explains.
The series for the PAD exhibition created by the architect are deeply influenced by nature. "They are objects born from thought. The most beautiful things in this world are created by nature — light, yet dense at the same time. Like a wave, like a sculpture, like frozen fabric. For me, it is a form of thought, a reflection".
